The 7,183 m long Cave Béke is the second longest cave system of the Aggtelek Karst to Cave Baradla, and the third longest in Hungary. It is the only cave in Hungary, which is permanently active with a brook flowing through.
The cave has special small formations such as the 30-60 cm high stone mushrooms emerging from the bed of the brook; the crests, which sometimes resemble sharp knife blades, stretching out of the sides of the passages; the rocks with ears connected to the rock wall in several points; the stone columns which are often several metres high and the rocking stones and rocks which have fallen into the bed of the brook. Due to its formations it is considered to be one of the richest caves in dripstones in Hungary. Its huge dripstones are mostly in a stage of constant development. They are of a wide variety of colours and shapes.
Cave Béke was declared a medicinal cave by the Department of Health in 1965 and since then medical treatments have been regularly held here. Its medicinal effect - among others - is based on the high calcium ion (with an anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effect) and the high carbon-dioxide (helps with breathing problems) content of the air.
Due to its values it has been highly protected since 1982 and it was declared a World Heritage site (along with the other caves of the Aggtelek hills) in 1995.
Only visitors over age 14 can take part in the 3-hour cave tour. Visitors are recommended to bring spare clothes and rubber boots.Belépődíj: 4200-7000 Ft
