-Pictures from the past of healing.
One of the largest exhibitions of medical history in Europe. The history of western medicine from the ancient Egypt to the modern times. The exhibition presents old medicinal tools as well as books and documents and with the help of paintings and statues of diseases and of healing it describes point by point how medical and biological knowledge became perfect throughout thousands of years, it demonstrates the continuous development of surgery and obstetrics as well as the presentation of diseases, death and healing in arts.
At present the library has 60,000 volumes of books including about 2,500 books from the 16th and 17th century, 30,000 offprints and 40,000 periodicals. Our collection includes medical and pharmaceutical publications issued until World War II, but current materials on the history of science and culture are also available for the purposes of research into medical history.
In the archives the written relics of the history of Hungarian medicine and health care are preserved. The collection, however, does not include - with some exceptions - any documents of health care management or documents of hospitals and institutions. The collection of personal fonds is much richer.
