The Mihály Babits Community Centre and the House of Arts is the largest centre of public education in county Tolna. With its community halls and the wide range of cultural programmes it has played an important role in the cultural life of Szekszárd, the smallest town of county rank in Hungary, for 35 years.
Its theatre hall can seat 600 persons, where theatre companies from Budapest and from the country present their performances of various genres in a subscription system. Visitors from nursery school children to pensioners can enjoy the music and dance performances, classical and pop music programmes, series of concerts, colourful children and youth programmes, exhibitions of fine and applied arts and other events. The house often hosts local, regional and international festivals and organizes large programmes. Communities, arts groups and associations are also based in the house.
The activities of the instituion aim to provide general education, present valuable programmes and improve the standard of cultural life in the town. This mission is achieved by the cooperation of the different sections of the institution such as the Community Centre, the House of Arts, the Children's House, Polip Youth Office, Tourinform Office, Panorama and ART cinema.
