Hejce is one of the most beautiful villages of the Zempléni hills at the foot of the Borsó (pea) and Gergely hills. It is accessible from the direction of Miskolc-Hidasnémeti. The village is divided into two parts by the brook Szerencs, which has a special atmosphere attracting visitors with its nicely arched stone bridges. Other sights include the labyrinth-like row of cellars from the age of the Mongol invasion, the fortress-like buttresses and the church towers, as well as the Eszterházy mansion built in the 18th century - it has served as a Roman Catholic Asylum run by the Archbishopric of Eger since 1952 - which is open to the public. |
