in Tar:   Sight - Travel Service

Village with 2,146 inhabitants 4 km from Pásztó at road No. 21. A picturesque surrounding is given to the place by the meeting of the Mátra and Cserhát Mountains. The Roman Catholic church with a trefoil chancel and surrounded by a wall has become a special monument with a range of - Romanesque, Gothic, baroque and neoclassical - incorporated elements. The 13th to 18th century frescoes of the church are unique legacies of medieval Hungary. Not far from the church the ruins of the fortified castle of bailiff Lőrinc Tar can be found. At the bottom of Gömör Hill a Buddhist education centre and stupa have been established inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in the summer of 1992. Both the environment of the protected Csevice wells and the collection of trees in the Tuzson Arboretum are favourite excursion points.
