The Bükk hills are the highest in Hungary compared to the average height of the country, their limestone peaks are over 900m. They have a varied surface , and with the micro-climate, they are a habitat for a wide variety of fauna and flora. Mediterranean species, species of high mountains and relic species from the Ice age can be found here.
The hills have an uniquely wide variety of butterflies and insects.
As many as 90 bird species breed here, some of them are endangered, which nest only in the forests and rocky walls of Bükk. There are more than 1,000 caves under the surface, in most of them you can find beautiful stalactites.
The marked tourist routes of the national park are excellent for walking, cycling, relaxation and recreation.
