Settlement 3 km from the eastern end of Lake Balaton with 1471 inhabitants. It has been inhabited since the Roman age, its territory was near one of the main roads of the one-time Pannonia province. It was first mentioned in documents as Villa Quaiar in 1086. The meaning of the name of the town (person calling people together) refers to an ancient post; the pronouncing of the judgements of the king and the judges. Since 1437 it had belonged to the Abbacy of Bakonybél then to the bishopric of Veszprém. During the Turkish rule it was depopulated several times, but in the first half of the 17th century it started flourishing again. The large church which was decorated with late Baroque and early Classicist ornaments in 1794 praises the work of the Protestant farmers of the village. It gives an awe-inspiring sight with its impressive size. Important sight is the unique row of cellars, which is the heritage of the five-hundred-year-old local wine culture. The restaurant, pension and several friendly cellars await visitors. The village is proud of its airport for sports aircrafts.
