This picturesque small village is situated in the west of county Zala, near the border of county Vas. It is divided into two parts: Lower and Upper Csöde.
It was first mentioned in records in 1342 as the property of the Bánffy family. Originally it was a village with separated groups of houses on hills (called 'szer'). Forestry has always played an important role in the life of the village. The folk architecture of Lower Csöde was especially characteristic and three of the buildings are presented in the village museum of Zalaegerszeg today. The village offers accommodation and restaurants to visitors. |
