The 2000-year-old settlement is situated in picturesque environment, where the majestically rolling waves of the Danube cross the border of county Baranya serving as a strong rampart at the eastern boundary of the county. It was populated in the prehistoric age, it was called Lugion during the Roman times and it was the most important seat of Limes at the Danube. During its turbulent history it served as a border castle, later it became a commercial and transport junction. The bank of the river is part of the Danube-Dráva National Park, the special flora and fauna of which are especially protected with rare species. The row of cellars in the loess wall is a spectacular sight, where many kinds of wine with a gold medal are being mellowed due to the special climate. It is part of the White Wine Route.
