Town with 60.000 inhabitants, adjacent to Budapest south-westerly.

In the vicinity, tumuli of the Iron Age and the remains of an earthwork of the Bronze Age can be visited. The "Dog-mansion" (Kutyavár) at Érdliget - the Castellum of Liget - is, according to folk tradition, a ruin of King Matthias' hunting seat. The local monument of Turkish times, the minaret was restored in 2000.
The Baroque Roman Catholic church received its present form in the early 1700s. The main altar and some items of the furnishings are in Louis XVI. style.

The Hungarian Museum of Geography is housed in the Classicist Wimpffen mansion built around 1820.
