Town with 5,536 inhabitants 35 km east of Mátészalka, on road No. 49. The Calvinist church of the village on river Szamos was built in early Gothic style in the 14th century. The church has shingled roof and painted ceiling, decorated with folk motives. The Calvinist council chaired by Péter Méliusz Juhász was held here in 1576. The Classicist Roman Catholic church was built in 1829. The former Szuhányi mansion, a 200-year-old Baroque building, is now a hotel. The history of the town is displayed by the Local History Museum. The present image of the town centre is characterized by the unique buildings designed by the team of the famous architect, Imre Makovecz. Farther from the centre, the castle-like building of the Adventist church is also worth visiting.
