It is situated on the bank of the river Zagyva, at the border of Pest and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties. Town with 5,839 inhabitants 12 km from highway M3. After the Mongol invasion the Jász people - whose name partly refers to the name of the town - were settled by King Béla IV in the valley of the river Zagyva in the 13th century.
