Town with 18,700 inhabitants 47 km northeast of Nyíregyháza on national highway No. 4. The Roman Catholic church was first mentioned in 1293, its Gothic sanctuary is from the 15th century; the church was rebuilt in Baroque style in the 18th century. The Museum of the Rétköz Region is housed in the historic building of the restored (1983) synagogue. In the courtyard of the ruined castle of the 15th century Castle Theatre performances are held in the summer. Festival of the Theatres Beyond the Frontier will be held in June. Bath, sporting and riding courts and a lake suitable also for angling are provided for the visitors in the vicinity of the castle.
