Nyírábrány is situated 2 kms from the road No. 48 at the country border. It was first mentioned in documents in 1279. In 1374 it was called Szentábrány, later Szentgyörgyábrány after the patron saint of the medieval Church. In the second half of the 18th century it was named Ördög-Ábrány after its landowner, the Eördögh family. The Roman Catholic church and the Greek Catholic church were built at the beginning of the 19th century and in 1868 respectively. In 1930 it became a large village. The most important sight is the two-storey neo-Classical mansion. There is only a carriage-entrance holding a terrace in the axis of the building. The designer, Ferenc Povolny formed the circular hall in a special way. Its calotte vault is decorated with intersecting vaults. The inlaid parquet had originally starry and floral patterns. Other sight is the frame thatched house with mudwalls and open chimney, without a veranda, It is a unique example of the poorest type of houses.
