Öcsöd is a large village in county Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, in Kunszentmárton Small Region. It used to be a settlement with gardens until the beginning of the 19th century when the settlement planning was completed. The buildings reflect a village-like atmosphere, but in the main street you can also see eclectic buildings typical of small towns. Poet Attila József studied at the school of the village in 1911-12. In the Attila József Memorial Museum there is a permanent exhibition on local history and nature protection. Folk handcraftsmen such as rope makers, blacksmiths, shoemakers, lace makers and straw plaiters are still living and working in the village. |
