It is a settlement of 3974 inhabitants on the right bank of the Tisza, by road 4, next to Szolnok. It was first mentioned in a resource from 1261. Its Roman Catholic church was finished in 1833. On both sides of the gate there are marble plaques with the names of the dead of World War II. In front of it there is a square with a stone cross and a monument of the Great War. The statue of St. John of Nepomuk is from the 19th c. The settlement is an important junction, its station was built in 1870s. The river Tisza and the Dead-Tisza are favoured places for holidays because of the rich flora and fauna. This region has great traditions in fishing and hunting.
